Get ready for the ultimate pairing: the breathtaking scenery of the Cape winelands with taste bud-tingling gourmet food and wine. We will take a leisurely drive to the food and wine capital of South Africa: the historic town of Franschhoek. Translated from Dutch, “Franschhoek” means ‘French corner’, however you’ll soon discover it’s very much a food and wine corner! Here you will taste award-winning wines as well as delicious gourmet delights, while enjoying stunning mountain views and the natural beauty of the valley.
Franschhoek’s French heritage goes back over 300 years – something that is evident in its wine and food tradition. At our first stop we will enjoy wines paired with a variety of some of the best cheese the Franschhoek valley has to offer. Our second tasting will be at the La Bri wine estate where wine is paired with lokum – an Eastern Mediterranean treat. This handcrafted Turkish delight features plums, roasted nuts, mint, apricot, ginger – combinations to excite your palate. Alternatively, opt for a truly unique South African experience: the estate’s biltong* and wine pairing. This is a fun and informal tasting where guests are encouraged to experiment with flavours and textures.
After our visit to La Bri, you’ll have time to explore the picturesque Franschhoek town. Browse the many arts-and-craft shops, art galleries and antique stores. Lunch can be arranged at a restaurant in town or at a wine estate. The third stop is at Franschoek Cellar where you will be able to indulge in something sweet. Chocolate and wine pairing – you will enjoy 6 wines and 8 chocolates. We end the day with a coffee and something sweet before we head back to your accommodation. Because this is a private tour, we can tailor it to your individual tastes and interests. We can easily visit different estates to the ones mentioned above at NO extra cost. So if there is a specific wine farm or other highlight you want to see in Franschhoek, just tell us and we’ll make it happen!
*Biltong is a South African delicacy: silverside of beef that is dried and marinated to a traditional recipe of rock salt, pepper, coarsely ground coriander and vinegar.
