No visit to Cape Town is complete without exploring the legendary Stellenbosch winelands. This scenic historic town lies in the heart of the Cape wine route and is an ideal base from which to explore hundreds of wine estates. Its mild weather and unique terroir is ideal for cultivating some of the best grapes in the world.
Your day will start at Simonsig wine farm – famous for its Kaapse Vonkel – a farm that is owned by pioneers of the South African wine industry. Simonsig is renowned for producing South Africa’s first Méthode Cap Classique (MCC), a bottle fermented sparkling wine made in the style of French Champagne.
Our second stop takes us to Babylonstoren. This farm is famous for its beautiful 8-acre garden that has been lovingly populated with fruit, vegetables, berries, indigenous plants, a prickly pear maze and much more. Dating back to 1692, Babylonstoren has reinvented itself to become a highlight in this region. With 72 hectares under vines and 13 different grape varieties you will definitely find a wine you like. An optional cellar tour can be done here.
The next farm is a family-owned and managed wine estate at the top of the Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch: Thelema. An icon in the South African wine landscape, Thelema was recently rated one of the world’s top 100 estates. Here you will be able to taste wine from two different terroirs.
The last stop will be Hidden Valley where you will enjoy a chocolate and wine pairing. This pairing was specially designed to enhance the flavours in their wines while you enjoy stunning views in the tranquillity of nature.
Please note: Lunch will be booked at a wine estate or, if you choose, it could take place in the town of Stellenbosch.
